Large Stencil wave UNFINISHED by l1vethedream Large Stencil wave UNFINISHED by l1vethedream
So I was workong on this massive stencil on a massive canvas- and I got bored of it and have left it unfinished.

It actually looks ok at a distance but if you look at it closer you'll notice that it doesn't align very well at all- so that left me disheartened- plus there are lots of differnt layers- 3 or 4? I think at the time I wasn't used to workong on/with stencils that large.

The image is from The Great Wave Katsushika Hokusai ...

Hi,

great stencil! So simple, but reale powerfull! I would like to invite you to our new art plattform named TapeRay. Itīs a wall art community and many artists from deviantart already there.

In our community you as an artist decide the price for every Artwork! You as an Artists can upload artworks and we are producing wall decals in any size for the customers. You decide of your own how much you want to earn each time we sell your artwork!

And there is no point where you have to pay anything for earning money. You could do with your artworks anything else, also if we convert them to vector graphics for you. We are art enthusiasts of our own!

If you have any questions you can contact me marcel@taperay.com or just have a look at [link]

Because your artworks are verygreat and we really want them on TapeRay you can also upload pngs, jpgs or what ever you want. I will convert them to vector grahics.

Thanks, Cheers, Marcel

I wouldn't have thought there were alignment mistakes at all. Even unfinished it looks wonderful.

Aww your too kind! I think I'm too critical of this and decided to cut my loses.

I'm actually really struggling on a multiple layer stencil right now, it's of my daughter I've spent bout 7 hours working on it and it's turned out awful! Not sure where to go with it.

Aw man I can't really help you there. I still haven't yet had the guts to try a portrait. Figuring out the lighting and everything! Maybe you could simplify it somehow? Try again with fewer layers? Good luck, I'm sure you'll figure it out and it'll be great!:)

No worries, thanks for your advice though. Normally I print off an image and break it down into layers myself but that didn't turn out so well so think I may use photshop to break it into layers for me... I was just a bit gutted because its a present for my ex and itsd of our daughter so it needs to be good, you know?

Yea how frustrating... I'm sure it will be great. Just have some catching up to do I guess:). Back to the drawing board! And other such cliches..
Wow how do you normally break down the layers yourself if you don't mind me asking? I would love to learn to do portraits!

Well according to my latest stencil I don't break down the layers effective enough!

Usually I'll try and find an image and then imagine what its going to look like and then try and split it into as few layers but still keeping it effective. My MGS Ninja stencil is a good example of this - [link] I saw that it could easily be put into 2 layers, one of detail another of colour.

I think my recent problem is that its a portrait and it was really hard to divide into layers. I've let my ex know that theres gonna be a delay, I'm not gonna give her something that looks like crap! Like you said... back to the drawing board!

Thank you! That 2 layered example you've given is very helpful to me.:) A good place for me to start. I'm very much looking forward to your "new" portrait. Good luck to you!

I can't remember how big it is, but it was really big. I had to get rid of it due to space.

I love the image from where this is from, unfrotunatley it didn't quite turn out how I wanted and so I gave up. Shame really.

I can't put my hands on the stencil I used, not sure where it is. You don't need my permission! Its not an original image! But go for it, I've added you to my deviant watch and I'll be looking forward to seeing you do this stencil

Thats looking awesome! What I did was to break the image down into colours. Different layers for different colours.

1 layer for the light blue, 1 layer for dark blue another layer for black I didn't do a layer for white...

But yeah its looking real good so far, what size are you doing it? No worries about the inspiration!!!

That's exactly what I've done man :P Got the black hidden in that layer though it looks pre awesome without it.

Mines also a .png so yeah transparent background. I got this man :P I ain't no noob to PS.

And I'm not sure, I need to know how big I can print it but I'm thinking around 2 meter's width?

I was thinking of doing another version using the top part of it and mashing it with other images but it might look too busy, I like it how it is to be honest but like i said, needs some fixing. Could always fix the problems as I cut though I suppose..

Good man! Actually when I print images for stencils, I just use paint, and enlarge the image and then break down the layers manually. Be careful when blowing up an image, if its not a high resolution image it'll come out all pixellated and fuzzy.

How big you want to print it is all dependant on where your going to put it!

It might look to busy with stuff on top of it, but that depends on what your gonna put there. I personally think this image is fine by itself, its juts so powerful

I think if you look at the larger version it doesn't quited line up... Its a shame because if it worked it would have been my biggest piece and this original image is one of my favourite paintings ever! But thanks!

I would like to finish it one day, because its one of my favorite paintings...

Nah- I wish- if you closely- the bottome half doesn't align very well at all- I think I cut it wrong- and I did this over a year ago and have since chucked the canvas away- mainly because it was huge and I had no where to store it.

Its a shame really- but oh well- got other things to work on...

But I do still have the stencils and I suppose I could return to it... in the future...
